Able Warrior

About

I've learned how to rebuild.

My name is Jay Cate. I did not start Able Warrior because I figured life out. I started it because I had to rebuild my own, and I am still doing that work.

There was a stretch where I was still functioning and still capable, and I knew the standards I held for everyone else were not the ones I was holding for myself. Getting back took ordinary, repeated effort. That is what this whole thing is built on.

Where I came from

I spent years in places where being reliable mattered. The Army taught me that a man is measured by whether the people beside him can rely on him. Working as a paramedic and firefighter reinforced it; nobody asks how you feel when the call comes in.

That kind of work builds real strengths. It also teaches you how to keep functioning long after something inside has started to slip, because stopping isn't an option in the middle of a shift.

02

When capability isn't enough

I could still perform. From the outside, most things looked fine. But the standards I held for everyone else weren't the ones I was holding for myself, and I knew it.

Training got inconsistent. Health slid. Promises I made to myself quietly stopped meaning much. I don't think that's rare. I think a lot of men are functioning while carrying that same private gap between who they mean to be and how they actually live.

Rebuilding

Rebuilding wasn't one decision. It was a long stretch of small ones, showing up to train when I didn't want to, keeping ordinary commitments, getting honest about what I'd been avoiding, and letting the evidence pile up until my own word meant something again.

It's ongoing. I'm not writing this from the far side of a finished transformation. I'm writing it from inside the work.

Why Able Warrior exists

I've also spent years studying human performance. I hold a B.S. in Kinesiology from Oregon State University; I'm currently pursuing an M.S. in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology at the University of Florida; I'm Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified; and I'm actively preparing for the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam.

Able Warrior exists where those two things meet. I believe both matter. Experience without study can become guesswork. Study without experience can stay too far from real life. Men doing this work deserve both.

What I believe about coaching

A coach is not a savior, a therapist, or a man with all the answers. My job is to help you see clearly, build structure you can actually keep, and keep a standard while you rebuild the capacity to hold it yourself.

You remain responsible for your life. That's not a hard line; it's the whole point. Responsibility is what makes the rebuild yours.

If any of that sounds familiar

The next step isn't a transformation. It's one commitment worth keeping.
